Super Llama: Llamas are awesome! (39)
My Bio
I am a second year student in the PhD program in entomology at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I love nature, so it is a fantastic field for me to be in. The other possible option would have been ornithology (study of birds), but I am happy with the choice I made.

I love to go bird watching, insect collecting, or just be out in nature. I am more of a solitary bee than a social insect (terrible pun, I know), but I do not mind hanging out with like-minded friends from time to time. I suppose that would make me more of a communal insect.

I am not a great artist (hence coming to DA to attempt to improve my skills), but I have been writing poetry since I was a child. I'm better with a mouse than I am with a pencil, oddly enough. I would probably fail miserably if I ever used a tablet.

It's not a true 1:1 yet, though some extension tubes and other fun things can get me there. Still, I can get some really neat shots with it! I've been trying it out on everything I come across. Some turn out terrible. That's what testing is for. Others turn out fantastic. Those are the ones you will be seeing, obviously. :P I'm just loving a whole new perspective on everything around me!

1. I get to chase insects with a net. 2. Walking around with a still-drying insect pinned to a block of Styrofoam is a GREAT conversation starter. 3. I get to play around in the lab AND in the field. 4. I know nifty trivia like the fact that about a third of our food needs bees to be produced and that beetles make up 40% of all known insect species. 5. I can work on projects anywhere I go. I just need to make sure I have empty specimen vials! 6. My classes in grad school are just plain awesome. I get to raise a colony of Tenebrionid beetles (Tribolium casteneum) for my research project in Insect Ecology. No details yet. You will have to
