Literature Text

Silent, introspective glare;
silver-shocked, ebony stare.
Watchful eyes, preordained;
clear once, now so pained.

Colours colliding in a mess;
teary eyes cannot take the stress.
Anger comes with lightening speed
followed by brothers, Hate and Greed.

Black-wrought eyes plead with us,
But we will not see what's just.
Crying eyes cannot explain,
how we bring about such pain.

We do not see, we do not listen.
Teardrops gather and glisten
in the corner of the eyes
that watch us from the distant skies.
Whatever higher power you might believe in, I cannot help but to think they must be looking down upon us and wondering what went wrong. Humans can be so cruel to their fellow man.

This poem was part of a local art, poetry, and prose show called Poefest. It was based around Edgar Allan Poe and darker themes.
